Change of Law – Leaving Dogs in Hot Cars

It´s a common scenery every day passing by and seeing trap dogs in parked vehicles.  Parked cars are boiling ovens. The quickly trap the sun’s heat raising the interior temperature almost 20 degrees in short times. And if they are left for hours, cars become deathtraps for dogs.

I have seen dogs panting and struggling inside cars, and just leaving the windows open a crack doesn’t eliminate the danger of heatstroke or death. Dogs cannot effectively rid their bodies of the heat because they sweat differently than humans. And by leaving your dog for even a short period could put him in serious danger.

The responsibility of a pet, it’s of his owner and they should be held responsible for any danger they put them in. Police only ignores the situation and don’t do anything because there is no legislation. I feel helpless because right now there are no laws against this animal cruelty.

In the UK. There is a parliament petition and if we get to the right amount of signatures they will debate the topic.

In the US. There are currently 14 states where it is illegal to leave pets in hot cars (AZ, CA, IL, ME, MD, MN, NV, NH, NJ, NY, ND, SD, VT & WV). Check Animallaw Info

We need to get signatures so this situation is also treated in government. They should state Penalties range from monetary fines to being charges with a misdemeanor, to imprisonment. And also, empower law enforcement and other responders to assist the animal in distress.

Please join me in to pass a law prohibiting leaving animals in confined vehicles. Together we can win and legislate this petition.

Our pets give so much to us, and they depend on us for protection. If a pet owner is negligent to this degree, they must face legal repercussions. Please join me to pass a law prohibiting leaving animals in confined vehicles.
